The 90-day myth
The idea that a new employee is fully onboarded after 90 days is widespread but not well-supported by evidence. A BambooHR study found that 86% of employees decide within the first six months whether they will stay with the organisation long term, and the Society for Human Resource Management estimates that full productivity in a complex professional role typically takes six to twelve months. The 90-day threshold is useful as a milestone for a formal check-in, not as the finish line for onboarding.
