Equal Pay
The legal principle that people must receive the same pay for the same or equivalent work.
Equal pay is the requirement that men and women โ and, more broadly, comparable workers โ receive the same reward for the same work, work rated as equivalent, or work of equal value.
It is a distinct legal obligation, separate from the gender pay gap: an organisation must ensure equal pay for equal work even where a broader average gap exists.
Transparent pay structures, job evaluation and regular audits help employers identify and correct any unjustified differences.
