Gender Pay Gap
The difference in average pay between men and women across an organisation or workforce.
The gender pay gap measures the difference between the average earnings of men and women, usually expressed as a percentage. It reflects the make-up of the workforce โ such as who holds senior roles โ rather than unequal pay for the same job.
It is distinct from equal pay, which is the legal requirement to pay men and women the same for equal work. An organisation can comply with equal pay yet still report a gap.
Analysing and reporting the gap helps employers identify structural causes, such as under-representation in senior roles, and take targeted action.
