Wat is Bank Holiday (Public Holiday)? | HR-woordenlijst | BambooHR
A day recognised by statute on which most workers are entitled to paid time off or an alternative benefit.
A bank holiday, or public holiday, is a nationally recognised day of rest set by law. Employees typically receive the day off with pay, or an equivalent benefit if they are required to work.
The number and dates of public holidays vary by country, so multi-jurisdiction employers must configure entitlements carefully to avoid over- or under-paying staff.
Clear policies on how public holidays interact with annual leave, part-time hours and shift work prevent confusion and payroll errors.
