FEB 25, 2026
Without psychological safety, your performance conversations are performance theatre, your engagement surveys are guesswork, and your diversity initiatives are window dressing.
Performance management without psychological safety produces performance theatre: employees say what they think the manager wants to hear rather than giving honest assessments of their own development needs. Engagement surveys without psychological safety produce inflated scores, because employees who fear being identified as disengaged will rate higher than they actually feel. DEI initiatives without psychological safety produce silence: members of underrepresented groups will not raise their experiences of exclusion in an environment where speaking up is professionally risky. You cannot build a high-performing, inclusive, transparent organisation without first building safety.
