An Application Programming Interface (API) is a set of defined methods that allows one software application to communicate with another. In HR technology terms, an open API means that your HRIS publishes a documented, accessible interface that other systems can use to read or write data without manual exports or complex custom builds. Think of it as a standardised socket that allows any compatible plug, whether a payroll system, an LMS, or a business intelligence tool, to connect and exchange data reliably.
열린 APIs가 HR에 중요한 이유
HR 기술 생태계는 단일 공급자 구조인 경우가 드뭅니다. 대부분의 조직은 급여, 채용, 학습, 웰빙을 위한 전문 도구와 함께 핵심 HRIS를 사용합니다. 개방형 API가 없다면 이러한 시스템을 연결하려면 값비싼 맞춤형 통합 또는 수동 데이터 전송이 필요합니다. 반면 이를 갖추면 개발자나 구현 파트너가 도구를 빠르고 안정적으로 연결할 수 있으며, 단일 공급자의 제품군에 종속되지 않습니다. 잘 문서화된 개방형 API를 갖춘 HRIS는 내부 또는 외부 개발 자원을 활용한 맞춤형 보고나 워크플로 자동화 구축도 가능하게 합니다.
API에 대해 공급업체에게 물어봐야 할 질문
Ask whether the API is RESTful (the modern standard), whether it is documented publicly, what rate limits apply, whether webhook support is included (for real-time event notifications rather than polling), and whether all core data objects, including employees, absences, documents, and org-chart data, are accessible via the API. Ask for reference customers who have built integrations using the API and speak to them about their experience. A vendor who cannot answer these questions clearly is unlikely to have a mature integration capability.
