Think of it as a standardised socket that allows any compatible plug, whether a payroll system, an LMS, or a business intelligence tool, to connect and exchange data reliably.

Ask whether the API is RESTful (the modern standard), whether it is documented publicly, what rate limits apply, whether webhook support is included (for real-time event notifications rather than polling), and whether all core data objects, including employees, absences, documents, and org-chart data, are accessible via the API. Ask for reference customers who have built integrations using the API and speak to them about their experience. A vendor who cannot answer these questions clearly is unlikely to have a mature integration capability.
