1.Overview
The BambooHR open API makes it easy to integrate other applications with BambooHR so that data can be shared across systems. The BambooHR API is a RESTful internet protocol built around making semantically meaningful HTTPS requests to access or modify a resource, most commonly an employee record. The API can be used to retrieve or manipulate employee data and to generate reports in several formats.
Although the open API is available to anyone who agrees to these Terms, BambooHR's mission with the BambooHR Apps Marketplace is to present applications and integrations that solve real problems for BambooHR customers. BambooHR will review and approve Apps Marketplace Partner Applications based on market need, quality, and level of integration. Full API documentation, including endpoint references, authentication guides, and code samples, is available at documentation.bamboohr.com/docs. We encourage you to explore the documentation to understand what is possible before building your integration.
2.Getting API Access
As long as you follow these Terms, BambooHR grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-assignable, non-transferable licence under BambooHR's intellectual property rights to use the APIs to develop, test, and support your application, and to let your customers use your integration of the APIs within your application.
Each Apps Marketplace Partner application accessing BambooHR's APIs must authenticate using BambooHR's Login API before retrieving an API key on behalf of a customer's user or retrieving customer data. API keys must be kept confidential and must not be published or shared with unauthorised parties.
3.Scope of Your API Access
You must use efficient programming which will not cause too many requests to be made in too short a period of time, as determined solely by BambooHR. If this occurs, BambooHR reserves the right to throttle your API connections or to suspend or terminate your BambooHR account(s). BambooHR's APIs allow Apps Marketplace Partners to build an integration in order to distribute any purchased Partner services within the BambooHR Apps Marketplace only.
Your API access does not extend to, and you must not engage in, any of the following activities: (1) impersonation of any other person; (2) falsely stating or implying that you are associated with another person or entity; (3) using someone's API access to show their content to someone else, for example as part of search results; (4) using the APIs in any application that includes adult content, promotes gambling, involves the sale of tobacco or alcohol to persons under 21 years of age, or otherwise violates any applicable law or regulation; (5) using the APIs to retrieve content that is then aggregated with third-party search results in such a way that an end user cannot attribute the content to BambooHR; (6) submitting or linking to any content through the API that misappropriates or infringes the intellectual property or other rights of any person or entity, interferes with the operation of the API, violates anyone's privacy or publicity rights, breaches any duty of confidentiality, provides any confidential information about BambooHR or BambooHR customers without authorisation, or is harassing, defamatory, abusive, obscene, or otherwise objectionable in BambooHR's reasonable judgement; (7) submitting content that contains or installs viruses, worms, malware, or other code designed to disrupt, damage, or limit the functionality of any software or hardware; (8) submitting content that contains false or deceptive language, unsubstantiated comparative claims, spam, chain letters, or any other solicitation.
Additionally, you must not: use customer data beyond what is described in the written guidelines provided by BambooHR or beyond what is specifically agreed and required within the scope of the integration; use any BambooHR web services, customer systems, or data migration tool to insert content into the BambooHR platform beyond what is recommended by BambooHR (in any case of doubt, always contact the BambooHR Relationship Manager); develop a third-party integration or application without written confirmation from a BambooHR employee, and ensure that all integrations built follow the written guidelines provided by BambooHR; distribute or allow access to data obtained through BambooHR's APIs to anyone other than the company on whose behalf you agreed to these Terms, or create an application programming interface that enables access to content or data (anyone who wants to access BambooHR APIs and content must use BambooHR's APIs to do so); or implement features or business practices that harm the professional reputation, relationships, or professional ecosystem of BambooHR customers or other Partners.
4.Test Accounts
You may create up to two BambooHR test accounts for the purpose of testing your application only. You must create these accounts manually and not via any automated means, such as scripts. Test accounts must not interact with non-test accounts or other Partner services (for example, you may not use test accounts to post fake or real jobs to existing BambooHR job board partners) or override the BambooHR API call limits.
5.Support and Modifications
BambooHR may provide you with support or modifications for the APIs at its sole discretion and may stop providing support or modifications at any time without notice or liability to you. BambooHR may release subsequent versions of the APIs and require that you use those subsequent versions. Where reasonably possible, BambooHR will keep APIs backward compatible, but will expect a proactive approach from all API users to use the most recent version.
Your continued use of the APIs following a new release of the API or modifications to these Terms constitutes your acceptance of any such changes. You are responsible for ensuring your application remains compatible with the then-current version of the BambooHR API.
6.Notices and Service of Process
Informational resources are made available via access to the BambooHR Partner Portal. This content is owned and made available by BambooHR. BambooHR may notify you via updates on the Partner Portal or via the email address associated with your Partner Portal account, test accounts, or BambooHR user account on file. It is your responsibility to ensure that your contact details are kept up to date.
7.Termination and Deletion of API Access
BambooHR reserves the right at any time in its sole discretion, without liability to you or any third party, to modify, suspend, or terminate your API access or access to the BambooHR platform. BambooHR may amend these Terms and will provide the latest version upon each agreement renewal.
Upon termination of your API access for any reason, you must immediately cease all use of the APIs, delete all BambooHR data in your possession obtained through the APIs (unless required to retain it by applicable law), and cease representing yourself as a BambooHR API partner.
8.Unlawful and Abnormal Activity
Other practices may be relevant in determining legitimate use and BambooHR reserves the right to take any unlawful, prohibited, abnormal, or unusual activity into account in making its determination. BambooHR may, at its option, terminate its relationship with you or suspend your API access immediately if it determines you are using your access contrary to these Terms. Where reasonable, BambooHR will provide you with notice of improper usage before suspending or terminating your access.
9.Monitoring
You agree to assist BambooHR in verifying your compliance with these Terms by providing information about your integration and application, which may also include access to your application and other materials related to your use of the APIs. If you do not demonstrate full compliance with these Terms, BambooHR may restrict or terminate your access to the APIs.
BambooHR may monitor your API usage to ensure compliance with these Terms, to protect the stability and security of the platform, and to enforce rate limits. By using the APIs, you consent to such monitoring.
