Automating HR Processes: A Quick Guide to HRIS Integrations
MAR 10, 2026
Your HRIS should talk to your other business systems. Here is how integrations work and which connections deliver the most value.
Pourquoi les intégrations comptent
An HRIS that operates as an island, requiring manual data entry of the same information into payroll, access management, and finance systems, creates inefficiency and errors. Every time the same data is entered twice, there is a risk of inconsistency. Every time a leaver is not promptly removed from all systems, there is a security risk. Integrations that automatically synchronise data between systems eliminate double-keying, reduce errors, and ensure that your HRIS is the single source of truth for people data across the organisation.
Les intégrations SIRH les plus précieuses
Payroll: automatically passing new starters, leavers, salary changes, and hours worked to the payroll system each pay period eliminates a significant volume of manual work and reduces payroll errors. Identity and access management: provisioning and de-provisioning system access automatically when employees join, move roles, or leave ensures security compliance without relying on manual IT requests. Finance: passing headcount, cost-centre, and salary data to the finance system allows for accurate budget tracking and forecasting without manual exports.
There are two main types of integration: API-based and file-based. An API integration enables real-time or near-real-time data exchange between systems: a change in the HRIS is immediately reflected in the connected system. A file-based integration (typically a CSV or XML file exported from one system and imported into another) is less immediate but simpler to set up and widely supported by legacy systems. Where real-time synchronisation is important, such as de-provisioning access for a leaver, an API integration is strongly preferable.
