Workplace Relations Commission (WRC)
Ireland's statutory body for employment rights, enforcement and dispute resolution.
The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) is the Irish State body responsible for promoting good workplace relations and enforcing employment law. It provides information, mediates and adjudicates disputes, and inspects employers for compliance.
Most individual employment claims in Ireland โ including unfair dismissal, pay, working time and discrimination โ are heard by WRC adjudication officers, with appeals to the Labour Court. Its inspectors also enforce entitlements such as the minimum wage and can require back-payment.
It is broadly the Irish counterpart to the UK's Acas and employment tribunals combined, and to some functions of the US Department of Labor. Employers should ensure policies and records would withstand WRC scrutiny, since well-documented, fair procedures are the best defence.
