Training Needs Analysis
A systematic assessment of the gap between current and required skills.
A training needs analysis (TNA) is the process of identifying where employees' current skills fall short of what their roles, or the organisation's goals, require. It ensures that learning investment is directed at genuine gaps rather than assumed ones.
A TNA typically works at three levels: organisational, examining strategic capability needs; role or team, examining the competencies each job demands; and individual, examining each person's development areas. Data from performance reviews, business plans and skills audits feed the analysis.
The output is a prioritised picture of what training is needed, for whom, and why, which becomes the basis of the learning and development plan. Revisiting it regularly keeps development aligned with a changing business.
