I-9 Form (US)
A US federal form used to verify an employee's identity and legal authorisation to work in the United States.
US-specific concept - see the local note below for the Irish/UK equivalent.
The Form I-9 is a United States document that employers must complete to confirm each new hire's identity and eligibility to work in the US. Both employer and employee complete sections, supported by acceptable identity documents.
It is a strictly US federal requirement, tied to US immigration law, and carries penalties for non-compliance.
Employers outside the US do not use the I-9. The nearest equivalent elsewhere is a right-to-work check appropriate to the local jurisdiction.
