Accrual (Leave Accrual)
The gradual build-up of entitlements such as annual leave as an employee works through the year.
Accrual is the method by which entitlements accumulate over time rather than being granted all at once. Annual leave commonly accrues per month or per hour worked, so a new joiner or part-time worker earns holiday in proportion to time served.
Accrual rules matter for accuracy and fairness. They determine how much leave someone can take at any given point, what is owed on departure and how carry-over is handled at year end.
An HRIS automates the calculations, applying the correct rate to each contract type and keeping running balances that employees and managers can see.
