Start with the problem, not the product
Assess the essentials: a central employee record, self-service for employees and managers, leave and absence management, onboarding workflows, document storage with e-signature, performance management, and reporting and analytics. Rate each against your must-haves and nice-to-haves so you can compare vendors objectively.
Consider how well the modules work together. A single integrated system usually beats a patchwork of tools, because data flows automatically and there is one source of truth. Check whether the areas you care about are genuinely mature rather than superficial add-ons.
Adecuación en cumplimiento y protección de datos
For Irish, UK and EU employers, compliance fit is essential. Check that the system supports GDPR obligations: granular role-based access, audit logging, retention controls, and the ability to respond to subject access requests. Confirm where data is hosted and what international-transfer safeguards are in place.
Look for support for local requirements such as working-time and leave records, right-to-work document storage, and gender pay gap and forthcoming pay-transparency reporting. A US-centric system may assume features like I-9 or 401(k) that are irrelevant here while lacking the local capabilities you actually need.
Integraciones, usabilidad y soporte
Evaluate the quality of implementation and ongoing support. Ask about onboarding assistance, data migration, training, and who you call when something goes wrong. Buying through an authorised partner can add local implementation expertise and a single point of accountability.
Coste total y decisión
Look beyond the headline per-employee price to the total cost of ownership: implementation, data migration, integrations, training, and any charges for additional modules or support tiers. Model the cost as you grow, since pricing often scales with headcount.
Finally, weigh the shortlist against your original problem statement and outcomes, not against a feature spreadsheet in isolation. Reference calls with similar organisations and a hands-on trial with your own data are worth far more than a polished sales demonstration.
