Rycon Construction is a Pennsylvania-based construction firm delivering commercial, institutional, and residential projects across the eastern United States. With a workforce of more than 700 people spanning project managers, superintendents, skilled tradespeople, and administrative professionals, Rycon operates across a large footprint in an industry where workforce management is a critical determinant of project success. Managing a large, geographically dispersed construction workforce presented HR challenges that the firm's existing processes were not equipped to handle.

The nature of construction work means that employees are rarely in one place for extended periods. Project teams are assembled, deployed to sites, and reconstituted for new projects as the portfolio shifts. Tracking employment status, certifications, and compliance requirements for a workforce in constant motion required either a highly systematised HR operation or a tolerance for inaccuracy. Rycon chose the former.

Before BambooHR, the firm's HR administration was handled through a combination of manual processes and a legacy system that provided limited self-service functionality. Field-based project managers had little access to workforce data on site, requiring them to call or email the HR team for information they needed to manage their teams effectively. Onboarding new employees was slow, with paper-based processes extending the time from offer acceptance to site-ready status.

BambooHR was implemented to modernise Rycon's people operations and give field-based managers the data access they needed to work independently. The mobile app enabled project managers to check employee credentials, view team availability, and submit HR requests from site without returning to the office. This reduction in dependency on centralised HR support freed the firm's HR team to focus on strategic priorities rather than reactive administration.

Onboarding new employees became significantly faster. Digital workflows guided new hires through their employment documentation, compliance requirements, and first-day preparation before they arrived on site. The average time from offer to site-ready status fell by 50%, enabling Rycon to mobilise new team members more quickly in response to project staffing needs.

Project headcount visibility improved dramatically. Site superintendents and project executives could view current staffing levels, certification status, and availability for each project in real time, enabling faster decision-making about resourcing and reducing the risk of compliance gaps in safety-critical roles. The quality of workforce data available to the leadership team improved the precision of the firm's project planning and bidding process.
