Recruitment Analytics: The Metrics That Make Your Hiring Smarter
MAY 7, 2026
Recruitment analytics transforms hiring from a reactive activity into a data-driven competitive advantage. Here are the metrics to track.
The core recruitment metrics
Time to hire (days from vacancy opening to offer acceptance) is the most widely tracked recruitment metric and the most misleading if viewed in isolation. Supplement it with: quality of hire (performance rating at six and twelve months, segmented by source and hiring manager), offer acceptance rate (the percentage of offers made that are accepted), cost per hire (total recruitment spend divided by total hires in the period), source of hire (which channels produce the most applications and the most successful hires), and first-year retention rate segmented by source.
Using analytics to improve the funnel
The most powerful use of recruitment analytics is funnel analysis: tracking the conversion rate at each stage from application to offer. A high dropout rate at the application stage suggests a friction-heavy application process or a poor job description. A high screening failure rate suggests the sourcing is reaching the wrong audience. A high interview-to-offer ratio suggests the assessment process is generating too many false positives. Each stage has different causes and different fixes: analytics tells you which stage to focus on rather than requiring you to improve everything at once.
